Twitter was launched here at the South by SouthWest tech show. It's show and tell for Startups. Last year PhoneBooth Free launched here to great success. I like that a business to business solution generated such buzz. I can't wait to launch George Mobile there next March!

By the end of March, we were still seeing the effects of the SXSW launch on new-user acquisition.”

Skype has announced plans to monetize its millions of monthly users by integrating large display ads within its free video calling platform.
Visa first to use Skype ads
As it gears up for an IPO later this year, Skype has revealed that it has started selling display ad inventory on its site for the first time.
Big brand names including Visa, Disney, Universal Studios and Volkswagon are among the first to advertise.
"We're filling a creative engagement gap. All the research suggests users spend the most time on Facebook, but on Skype it's an hour and 28 minutes. What we have is a very engaged set of users."
"With 145 million average monthly connected users, and 28 million concurrent users at any given time, Skype's scale and engaged user base is an attractive platform for brands to market their products," said Skype's chief marketing officer, Doug Bewsher.
According to a Skype blog post, ads will initially appear in the U.S, U.K., and German markets and the current plan is to show an ad from one brand per day.
The ads will appear in the Home tab in Skype for Windows, although Skype plans to test other placements in due course. Users of the free video calling platform won't be subjected to pop-up ads or any other annoying formats, says Skype, but non-personally identifiable demographic data such as location, age, and gender may be used to target ads. Users can choose not to share such data with advertisers and will be given the ability to close ads.
